Update on Mattie

So I'm on this new medication and the directions say to take it and stay up right for at least 30 minutes. I have strep throat, which is the 3rd time in 8 weeks that I have had strep. I've been to the doctor all 3 times and each time it comes back positive. Have no idea what is going on but more than likely I'm a carrier of the strep bacteria. Which means I will always test positive for strep. I'm not contagious unless I have true breakout of strep- you know swollen glands, sore throat, fever etc.... Anyways since it is late at night and I have some time I decided to do a update on Mattie.
Three weeks ago she had a cerebral angiogram done. That is a artery study of her brain. The purpose is to look at the brain and see if there is any other problems with the arteries and does she have good blood flow and also does she have the brain disease MoyaMoya which is what they think she has. The procedure was about and hour and half. She did great while she was under but in recovery she had to lay still for 4 hours to make sure the artery in her leg/groin area clotted and there was no bleeding. For a 2 year old to lay still is impossible, so she was heavily sedated and slept really well. She would try to roll and we (Dan or I) would put a hand on her leg to stop her. A week later Dan and I meet with her neuro-surgeon for the results. Her brain looks really good and the arteries look great and so does the blood flow. Of course there is a but to the story and that is there are some abnormalities on the brain. There are new tiny new arteries that are forming and the Doctor does not know why. We asked if she had Moyamoya and he could not give us a answer. At this time he does not see it but it also could be in the beginning stages of development. Mattie goes back in 6 months and will have a repeat of the cerebral angiogram to see what the changes are. At this time she is doing great and even pulled herself up to stand at the bath tube this week. This is the first time she has done this. We still have to be very watchful because she is at risk for a repeat stroke and also can have a seizure, but the doctor did lower her risk. She is doing outpatient therapy at Phoenix Children's on Tuesdays and in addition we do her home therapies, so in one week she has 6 appointments. Needless to say she keeps us busy but she has the best spirit about it and she is so happy. She loves to kiss us with her tongue out so it is more like a lick. Gotta love it!
