Mattie is 2

Mattie turned 2 a few days ago. It was a fun day and we did not do a big celebration. We hung out around the house and grilled some chicken for lunch. I made a birthday cake for her and had family over in the evening for cake and ice cream. It was a wonderful day. Of all my labors Mattie was the easiest and I think it was because the hard part was what was going to happen next. We knew she needed major surgery after she was born but we were unsure of any other problems that could occur. Mattie was born at 37 weeks and weighed 5lbs and 110z and was 19 1/4 inch long. Dan and I were able to hold her for about a minute before she was taken to the NICU were she spent the next 3 weeks. When she came home she weighed 5lbs and 3 0z. At her well check a few week ago she weighed 19 pounds and was 30 inches long. Today Mattie is very healthy and has minor health issues. She has taught us so much in the past few years and everyday it is something new. Mattie is also the busiest of the 3 children. Every week she has 4 therapy appointments and then there are also doctors appointments. In the past 6 weeks Mattie has learned to crawl and has picked up more signs. Last week she started to say her first word. She loves to play with Michael and also loves to pat David on the head. She is a great sister to her brothers.

Amish Bread Update

So today was my big day to bake the Amish Bread. I have to admit I was a little excited to try it. Anyways I woke up this morning to a mess all over the kitchen counter. Sometime in the middle of the night the bag either broke open or I did not seal it really good last night. I discovered some starter recipes on the internet or if anyone knows someone who is passing a starter bag around please feel free to mention me. On another note Michael has soccer practice on Wednesdays. So today I get all the kids ready load them all up in the truck (which is a chore) drive to the park hang out for 10 minutes and no one shows up for practice. It would have been ok if another person came but the fact that I was the only one their kind of peeved me. No phone call or e-mail saying that there was no practice today. This is the second time it has happened and I'm really annoyed about it. I feel bad for Michael because he gets excited about playing soccer and I could tell he was a little bummed about it.

Amish Bread

Today I was given some Amish Bread. I have heard about it before and now I'm a lucky recipient of it. My question is... Is this for real and if I eat will I die. I understand it is cooked when you eat it but the eggs and milk sitting on the counter for how many days..hmmmm doesn't this go against what we are taught. So if anyone has done this please let me know the outcomes. I must admit I like to squish the bag. I will have my husband try it first, he is more daring about this stuff and he will eat anything. I'm getting ready for my family Easter Dinner on Saturday. I'm tired and I've had very little sleep this week thanks to a certain little guy. I can't get mad at him especially when I'm holding him in the middle of the night and he will turn and look at me with a big ol' smile and give me a little giggle. The nice thing about being up in the middle of the night is I'm up when Dan gets home from work and it gives us a chance to talk. I was all excited because I made my grandma's Red Velvet Cake and it fell. So bummed! It taste good but it is a short cake.

David is getting over a cold and on Wednesday I noticed his eye was really red and swollen and had a little bit of drainage. He also would not open his eyes and was sleeping a lot and when he was awake he would moan. I made an appointment with the doctor and he was fine with everything except for the eye thing. I could not get him to open his eyes and Michael started talking and he turned his head and open his eyes so the doctor was able to see it. She put some dye in his eye and it looks like he scratched his eye. She is not 100 percent and it could be a eye infection as well but more than likely it was a scratch. She ordered a eye ointment for it but told me to watch it because they have had a few infants with a eye infection were the skin around the eye area is infected and if that is the case it is much worse and possible hospitalization. So know I'm scared and pray it is a scratch and i also feel horrible because a few days before I was thinking I need to trim his nails and if I would have done it this probably would not have happened. So my poor little guy is not feeling well, won't open his eyes and moans. Well I decided to trim his nails and what happens I clip to far and get part of the skin on his thumb. He is crying and bleeding and the bleeding won't stop because he won't stop crying and he keeps making a fist. Finally after 30 minutes he calms down and I get the bleeding to stop and I feel double horrible. My poor little man. I'm happy to report that his eye is better. it is still a little red and swollen but at least he will open it.

New Shoes

I was so excited today because I was able to buy Mattie her first pair of shoes. We need something with ankle support and her physical therapist recommended the white walking shoes. I was to tired today to take pictures so I will have to do it in the next couple of days. I also bought Michael a new pair of shoes and he picked out the same shoes that he had before. I should also mention that Mattie and baby David have the same size foot. His feet our big and she has these tiny little things. I love their feet.
